Walk the Luangwa Safari
At the far edge of the Great Rift Valley lies the Luangwa Valley, one of Africa’s last truly unspoilt wilderness regions and among its finest wildlife sanctuaries. Spanning more than 9,000 square kilometres, the valley is defined by the meandering Luangwa River, which nourishes a network of oxbow lagoons, open plains, and riverine woodland teeming with life. This fertile landscape supports some of the continent’s most impressive concentrations of game, from vast herds of elephant and buffalo to the predators that follow them—lion, leopard, and hyena. Towering giraffes move gracefully among acacia trees, while hippos wallow in the shallows and crocodiles bask along the riverbanks. With over 400 species of birds, the valley resonates with calls and colour throughout the seasons, offering one of the most diverse and rewarding safari experiences in all of Africa.
