Twelve days from the Highveld to the Zambezi, through four countries: South Africa, Mozambique, the Kingdom of eSwatini, and Zimbabwe. The Southern Cross is the most wide-ranging of the Rovos journeys to Victoria Falls. Rather than running straight north, it loops east to the gold-rush country of the Panorama Route and the Kruger, drops into Mozambique for a day in Maputo, crosses eSwatini for Swazi culture, then works its way up through Zimbabwe by way of Great Zimbabwe, the Matobo Hills, and Hwange before finishing at the Falls. It mixes big game, deep history, and several borders, all from the comfort of a wood-panelled suite on a train carrying no more than seventy-two guests. The excursions are full and varied; the days between are spent watching the country change from the observation car at the rear.
