This Family Safari is designed for families who want to spend quality time together. Featuring the Mara Bush Houses for a personalized safari experience in the Mara combined with the white sand beaches of Zanzibar for the ultimate in family fun. Designed for families from 4 – 12 members.

Day 1: Nairobi

On arrival in Nairobi you are met off your flight and transferred to your hotel for your overnight rest.

Day 2: Nairobi

Today you will be taken on a city tour of Nairobi. Start off at the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, followed by a visit to the Giraffe Centre and finishing with a visit to the Kazuri Beads Cooperative. Later return to your hotel for your overnight rest.

Day 3 - 7: Mara North Conservancy

After breakfast transfer to Wilson airport for your flight to to Mara North Conservancy. On arrival you will be met and transfer to the exclusive Mara and Acacia Bush Houses for five nights set in the scenic Mara North Conservancy. Experience total freedom in your own bush houses where animals stroll right past the front doors of these private sanctuaries, and you have total freedom to set the pace of your own safari escape. Mara House is seriously comfortable with a full complement of staff takes care of your every need. The house accommodates six people in three rooms. Even better, you have the freedom to personally design your own itinerary. With detailed personal service, home-from-home hospitality and unequaled wildlife expertise, a safari at Mara Bush House is a unique and exclusive adventure. There is a swimming pool that is shared between two houses providing some activity between your safari experiences. An experienced and friendly team, consisting of chef, private guide and house manager, is always on hand to ensure your stay is seamless and restful – your only decision will be whether to have lunch on the veranda or under the acacia trees beside the swimming pool. Safari is a very personal thing and can be enjoyed in many different ways. At Mara Bush House it is our firm belief that any safari expedition should be done on your terms, according to your routine and your time scale.

 

Game drives
Expert guides take you on twice daily game drives. Watch herds of elephants drink at the waterhole or stay with a pride of lion as the cubs play and fight with one another. There is no rush and no preordained schedule – this is safari on your terms. Game drives occur in the general Greater Maasai Mara region. At Mara and Acacia Houses the drives explore the Mara North Conservancy and surroundings. Our vehicles are either open game-viewing vehicles, or closed vehicles with big windows, high roofs and hatches that open. All vehicles have power points where you can recharge your devices, and are fitted with fridges to keep your drinks deliciously frosty.

 

Bush Walks
There is little better than exploring and learning about the bush on foot. At all our Bush Houses, the guides will teach your kids how to touch the earth, soil and leaves and smell the wild fruits and flowers on a vibrant and exciting bush walk around the properties.Community & cultural visitsThe culture of the natural guardians of this land, the Maasai, is both complex and fascinating. Time spent with the local guides in their home communities is a rich and rewarding experience, often the most memorable moment of a safari.

 

Family Safari
Expert guides Fred, Saalash and Dickson are all family men themselves and have an infinite knowledge of the plains. Let them teach your children the magic of the African bush with our specially adapted Asilia Kids program and fascinate them with bush-wise facts, traditional games, local folklore and stories of life in the wild.

Day 8: Stone Town

Transfer this morning to the airstrip for your flight to Nairobi-Wilson where you will connect to your flight to Zanzibar. On arrival at Zanzibar you are met and transferred to your hotel in historic Stone Town. Have the rest of the afternoon to enjoy it’s colourful streets and architecture.

Day 9 - 12: Zanzibar

Today you will enjoy a tour of the backstreets of Stone Town, a wonderful introduction of Zanzibar that gives you the feeling of the rich cultural heritage. Magnificent architecture, narrow alleys, sand and stone ancient built houses where some of them are over 200 Years old that have Arab/Indian carved wooden doors. We begin this tour at the main City market which was opened in 1904, where tropical fruits, vegetables, spices and fresh fish from the island are sold. Our next stop will be at the Anglican Church of Christ built by Bishop Steers in 1873 on the site where slaves were being auctioned. Other highlights include the Sultan’s Palace, House of Wonders, The Africa House, Jamituri Gardens and a visit to the Old Fort. You will continue to visit a spice farm.

 

After this experience transfer to KonoKono Beach Resort for the next four nights. Konokono Zanzibar Beach Resort is located on the Michamvi Peninsula, on the South East Coast of Zanzibar – one of the most authentic and secluded places on the island – and overlooks the wonderful Chwaka Bay. This morning you will transfer to Zanzibar airport for your flight home.
