After an early breakfast you will depart for Kibale National Park via Fort Portal, passing through verdant countryside and traditional homesteads and farms. Picnic lunch will be provided. Kibale National Park contains one of the loveliest and most varied tracts of tropical forest in Uganda. Forest cover, interspersed with patches of grassland and swamp, dominates the northern and central parts of the park on an elevated plateau. Explore many of the roadside markets en route.

This afternoon you will visit the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. Situated in the 4-sq-km Magombe Swamp on the fringes of the Kibale Forest, the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary is an excellent birding and primate habitat. Make your way through the swamp on raised wooden walkways, and observe some rare and colourful birds, colobus monkeys, and other small mammals like otters that live in the swamp. The Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary is a fantastic example of community tourism. Money from the sanctuary flows back into the local area to build schools, support women’s groups, and improve water and waste management access. 

This morning you will undertake an excursion to track the chimpanzees of Kibale gaining amazing insight into their life.  The trek starts with a briefing from the park rangers. They’ll talk you through the route you’ll be taking, the safety precautions, and explain more about the chimps and their behaviour in the wild.  You will then head off into the forest in search for a habituated group of chimps, these are chimps that are accustomed to human presence. These groups tend not to retreat too deeply into the forest, meaning you don’t have to hike as far before coming across your first troop swinging in the trees above.  Once contact is made, you can spend an hour observing their behaviour, with your trekking guides providing more context on what you are seeing and how the chimps behave. 

After spending some time with the noisy and playful primates you make our way back to the lodge to clean up and have lunch.   The rest of the afternoon is free to relax and enjoy the surroundings.

This morning after breakfast depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park. Queen Elizabeth National Park is understandably Uganda’s most popular tourist destination. The park’s diverse ecosystems, which include sprawling savanna, shady, humid forests, sparkling lakes and fertile wetlands, make it the ideal habitat for classic big game, ten primate species including chimpanzees and over 600 species of birds. Enjoy an afternoon game drive in the park.

Depart with packed lunch and embark on a full day game drive in QENP with a network of tracks that enables you to find a variety of animals including elephants, buffalo, waterbuck, lion, leopard, hyena and giant forest hog in the grassland thickets that cover the North Kazinga area near the Mweya Peninsula.

One of the main attractions of the park is the 32 km long Kazinga Channel, which attracts a large concentration of mammals, birds as well as reptiles all year around. You will enjoy a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel with an opportunity to spot the array of wildlife from the boat.

Today you set off on your Uganda gorilla tracking adventure in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – home to half of the world’s total mountain gorilla population. While trekking through the dense forest you’ll have the opportunity to view the mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Looking deep into the expressive brown eyes of the Gentle Giants of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park surely is the most exciting and poignant wildlife encounter that Africa has to offer. After this captivating and unforgettable experience you will head back to your lodge for some relaxation.

Today you have the option of a second Gorilla trek, seeing a different family than previously.  Each Gorilla family has its own unique dynamics and you can expect an entirely different experience as you spend another hour in the company of these amazingly Gentle Giants.

Alternatively, you can opt to do the Batwa Trail Cultural Activity. The cultural experience showcases the traditional life of the Batwa (pygmies) who were forest dwellers. The activity introduces travellers to Batwa life comprised of hunting, fruit gathering, collecting honey and performing of rituals in the caves within the forest. The Batwa lived in harmony with forest animals including the mountain gorillas for over 500,000 years. They are the main beneficiaries of the activity. 

Return to the lodge to rest up and enjoy the rest of the afternoon.
