Originating in the highlands of central Angola, the Okavango River flows hundreds of kilometres south and east before slowing and spreading out across the Kalahari, forming one of the world’s only true inland deltas. This vast network of winding channels, lagoons, and floodplains creates an oasis that supports an astonishing diversity of life—both animal and plant.

Our serene base at Guma Lagoon, set on the edge of one of the Okavango Delta’s largest lagoons, offers the perfect blend of comfort and wilderness. From here, we set out to explore this breathtaking ecosystem by traditional mokoro—dugout canoes that glide silently through the narrow, reed-fringed channels. Guided by expert local polers who know every curve of the Delta, we’ll venture to remote, uninhabited islands for guided walks, learning about the intricate balance of this unique environment and the remarkable adaptations of its wildlife and plant life.

A picnic lunch in the wild completes this quintessential Delta experience, surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature at its most pristine. After breakfast, we take to the skies on a scenic flight over the breathtaking Okavango Delta and Moremi National Park. From above, the labyrinth of winding channels, lagoons, and floodplains stretches endlessly beneath you—a dazzling mosaic of life and movement. The flight continues toward the Khwai airstrip, where your safari adventure deepens into one of Botswana’s most celebrated wildlife regions. Upon landing, the Drifters ground crew greets you and transfers you in an open 4×4 vehicle to our remote tented camp on the banks of the Mbudi River. The drive offers your first glimpse of the area’s prolific wildlife, and the camp itself promises a peaceful retreat, nestled beneath ancient trees. After settling into your comfortable tented unit, enjoy a relaxing evening beside the fire, with the sounds of the bush filling the night air.

After a hearty breakfast, we head out for a morning game drive through the Khwai Concession, a pristine wilderness known for its high concentration of elephants, big cats, and painted wolves (African wild dogs).

Guided by experienced local trackers, we follow animal trails through woodlands and open plains, stopping at waterholes where wildlife gathers to drink. Returning to camp for lunch and a bit of relaxation, you can cool off in the shade or watch elephants from the riverbank. Later in the afternoon, we set off again, capturing the golden hues of sunset as the bush transforms with nocturnal activity. Evenings are spent around the campfire, sharing stories under a sky thick with stars.

Today’s game drives may lead us deeper into the Reserve, where the Okavango Delta meets the dry savannah. This unique blend of habitats supports an incredible range of wildlife—from graceful lechwe splashing through flooded channels to lions stalking through the reeds. We spend the day following the rhythm of the wild, with long, unhurried hours at hides and waterholes, allowing nature to unfold at its own pace.
