Rich in breathtaking scenery, the Overberg region begins an hour south east of Cape Town and offers an amazing opportunity to explore without having to spend the whole day in the car. The seaside town of Hermanus – formerly Hermanuspietersfontein – is well known for its seasonal whale migration and lays claim to being the best destination for land-based whale watching in the world.

The village has become increasingly popular over the years with a great selection of top restaurants and bars all dotted along the coastline, providing amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean. Quaint guesthouses and upmarket hotels are all within walking distance of the vibrant town center, where craft markets and boutique shops beg to be browsed.

For the adventurous, Great White Shark cage diving is a popular thrill and Gansbaai – where a healthy population of Great White Sharks lives – is just a short, scenic drive from Hermanus. Take in some culture with a visit to the Old Harbour Musuem or head down to the glorious Hemel-en-Aarde wine region for some outstanding local wine and cheese. Spoil yourself with a visit to Arabella – a sought after golf and spa resort.

The region lies in the heart of the Cape Floristic Region – home to the greatest non-tropical concentration of plant species in the world – and is the only region to encompass an entire floral kingdom. The quaint fishing village of Arniston, the cosy town of Greyton and several nature reserves all combine to make this a magical part of your itinerary.
